Alterations and upgrades

Gas Supply Alterations and Capacity Upgrades

When the demand on a site changes, or building works cut across an existing service, the supply has to change with it. We assess the existing capacity, design the alteration or uprate, and carry out the works with as little disruption to supply as the scope allows.

What the work involves

  • Assessing the existing service size, pressure and available capacity
  • Calculating the new load required by additional plant, appliances or units
  • Designing an uprate, diversion or reroute around proposed building works
  • Network liaison and approvals for the revised connection
  • Installation, purging, recommissioning and tightness testing
  • Reinstatement of excavated ground and finishes

Who this is for

Businesses installing additional plant or catering equipment
Properties converting to multiple units with a higher combined load
Sites where an existing service runs through the footprint of new works
Owners advised that their current service is undersized for planned use

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my gas supply needs upgrading?

If the combined load of your existing and proposed appliances exceeds what the current service can deliver, an uprate is needed. Share your appliance schedule or plant list with us and we will assess the load as part of the quotation.

What does a gas supply upgrade cost?

It depends on the size of the new service, the distance to a suitable main, and the ground conditions along the route. We give a fixed written price after survey.

My building works cross an existing gas pipe. What now?

The service will need diverting or protecting before works proceed. Send us your drawings early — the earlier a diversion is designed, the less likely it is to hold up the wider programme.
